There is a hunger and a desire within fashion to be relevant, always to the next generation and the next generation. So it’s official: The Alexander Wang- era of less than three years at Balenciaga is officially over. The creative director and the company have agreed to part ways, Alexander Wang to concentrate on his namesake brand in New York, and Balenciaga to find a new designer.
Now the question is : who comes next ? Within the design ranks of major fashion houses are designers whose handiwork may sell millions of dollars worth of clothing or accessories, designers whose names are never made public. Balenciaga is thought to be considering candidates with experience, either past or present, at the house. There is indeed that desire for depth of talent married to the relevance of the time as well.
When ever a designer leaves a house there is always a question as to what direction the collections will take. Fashion is almost always playing musical chairs with their designers. Being loyal to a house one is forced to stay or move on. The good news is you can take a wait and see choice. Many houses have core pieces that they reproduce every season in a different color fabric or finish . like wise the new designer may look to the archives of the house for new inspiration. And as a result keep the over all esthetics of the collections constant.
