Who better than Karl Lagerfeld to design a collection that references Lederhosen, feather-topped hats and Tyrolean ribbons and make it all look contemporary and convertible ? In December, the designer presented Chanel’s Metiers d’ art collection at the Rococo Palace Schloss Leopoldskron in Austria. Models walked between tables laden with candelabras and stacks of fruit, and Lagerfeld presented a short film he directed, starring Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingene.
Introduce in 2002 as a way to showcase Chanel’s specialty ateliers, the Metiers d’ Art fashion shows feature highly wearable Pre fall collections that have grown to compete and rival the Fall and Spring shows among its global audience . For each Metiers d’ Art collection, Lagerfeld chooses a location tied to a milestone in the life span of the French house (Dallas in 2013, Versailles in 2012, Shanghai in 2009) The Paris Salzburg collection commemorated the trip during the 1950’s that inspired Gabrielle Chanel to create her iconic four-pocket jacket, after seeing the uniform of an elevator operator at the Schloss Mittersill hotel.
The tweed Chanel jacket embodies this iconic feature with the four pockets and buttons. Worn here with the Chanel leather boots with chains. The Chains are also iconic to the French house . There is a perfect balance in this ensemble of soft and hard with the tweed and the leather combination.
